Regarding DMLEK's statement of September 1, 2012.
The Eritrean Kunama Relief Association (EKRA) issues the following release regarding the statement of DMLEK issued on September, 1, 2012. After the detailed discussion on the stage of Eritrean Kunama Poltical Council on 16/09/2012, and on its extra ordinary session of 16/09/2012, the Eritrean Kunama Relief Association-EKRA has pressed the following facts:
- Hamid Idris Awate was a bandit,
- Hamid Idris Awate intention of exterminating the Kunama race,
- The day of independence should not be connected with Hamid Idris Awate and his legacy of death and destruction he brought up on the innocent kunama women and children.
- The Eritrean people should heed the concern of the kunama people when addressing historical facts and figures in order not to harm the rights and national pride of good citizens. Hence we demand the issue be left open for further research and debate instead of being a red line that no one should cross.
The Eritrean Kunama relief association EKRA underlines the truth about Hamid Idris Awate portrayed, honored and decorated as a national hero is not a vital move for all Eritreans for he was bandit, mass murder and cattle rustler of kunama people. He committed major atrocities up on the Kunama living in Gulluj, Magula, Dabaro, Dado, Dokinbiya, Anugulu, Fode, left scar on the minds and hearts of all Kunama people. At last Hamid Idris Awate fired the bullet on mount Adal not for triggering the liberation war but as a sign of his banditry and the guns that he possessed were bought by the money he got by selling the cattle that he and his men looted from the Kunama. We express our solidarity and understanding for the statement of the DMLEK and stand alongside its fighters and leadership.
We shall move together to liberate the Eritrean people that are in agony.
